For the past three years, the WSO has partnered with the River East Transcona School Division to present a special community concert. This annual event engages students and soloists from the division to perform with the WSO. One of the highlights of these concerts has been the world premiere of a composition by a high school music teacher. This community-based event brings together people of all ages to celebrate the joy of music.
Piano Student Soloist Competition
The WSO is pleased to invite all piano students from ages 14 to 18 living in the River East Transcona area to submit an application and recording for the 2009 Piano Student Soloist Competition. This competition will provide an opportunity to showcase a talented young pianist in concert with the WSO as part of the River East Transcona School Division outreach concerts on November 4, 2009.
Application deadline is April 30, 2009.
This concert brings together some of the most talented students in Manitoba. It will feature the Winnipeg Youth Symphony Orchestra and a mass choir of more than 300 high school singers from across the province. These students will perform a variety of repertoire with the WSO including the well-known Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.

In partnership with Manitoba Artists in Healthcare, the Artists in the Hospital program offers a music presentation at various healthcare centres across Winnipeg. Using live music, this program seeks to promote the health and healing of hospital patients, visitors and staff.
MUSIC APPRECIATION CLASSES
In partnership with the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts and Creative Retirement, the WSO offers a series of Music Appreciation Classes that compliment our season's programming. These classes are open to new and seasoned listeners who are looking to increase their knowledge and appreciation of classical music.
Taught by local instructor Don Anderson, these classes offer an in-depth look into featured composers and their music as well as make connections to arts activities in our community.

Share the Music is a unique partnership with other organizations that enables economically disadvantaged children, their families and adults to attend WSO performances. Because of the generous donations by corporations and individuals, more than 3000 tickets are provided to organizations across the province each year. These organizations distribute the tickets free of charge to people that want to hear our orchestra.
