Education Concert Series
The Adventures in Music program has grown to become the musical event of the year for many students and teachers in Manitoba. This highly successful program has more than 13,000 students from across Manitoba participating annually. The program provides exciting on-stage opportunities for students and teachers to interact with the symphony through movement and song. Planned with the elementary school music curriculum in mind, students learn the concert repertoire in their classrooms prior to the performances.
In the 2009-2010 season the WSO will explore the world of culture and sport through music and movement. You will hear music from around the globe that celebrates culture and competition. The WSO is delighted to showcase talented Winnipeg performers and students as part of this exciting program.

In-School Ensemble Performance
Bach to School is an in-school program where ensemble groups of the WSO perform and interact with students right in their own gymnasiums. Each ensemble group shares two 35-minute presentations with various grade levels of students inviting them to experience music from the Renaissance to the current day. During these presentations, the musicians invite the students to play the instruments, conduct the ensemble group, or clap along to a familiar movie theme. At each presentation, the ensemble invites students to ask questions about the group, their instruments or the music.
Prior to each presentation, the school receives a Bach to School Study Guide, which contains teaching materials intended to introduce the students to the program and to the specific instrument groups (string, brass or woodwind).

In-School Ensemble Performances
Nursery Notes is an innovative nursery school program designed to reach pre-school aged children. An ensemble group visits nursery schools to share a presentation that has been specially created to educate and appeal to this age group. The children conncect with the music and instruments through interactive activites and a puppet named Symphony Sam.

Open Dress Rehearsal
This program offers a unique opportunity for students to observe the WSO's final preparations before a Musically Speaking concert. Along with Alexander Mickelthwate and other guest hosts, this concert series presents live symphonic music in an informal and multi-media setting.
Join us in the 2009-2010 season for music by Handel, Strauss, Salieri and Rimsky-Korsakov as we take a look at The Royal Connection and Dangerous Liaisons!

WSO Provincial Student Soloist Competition!
The WSO is pleased to invite all Manitoba high school students (ages 14-18) to submit an application for the third annual WSO Provincial Student Soloist Competition. Through the Up Close and Orchestral program, this competition will provide one Manitoba student the opportunity to perform in concert as a soloist with the WSO. The Up Close and Orchestral program will visit seven high schools in the fall of 2009 to share a full orchestra concert with more than 3500 students!
